The world we live in is a vast and sometimes overwhelming paradox. Fashion is something that plays a part in all of it, whether you design, make or simply buy it, it has a place in our lives. It is an entity that surrounds us, one that we will never be able to live without but sadly, it is an industry that has major negative implications on the world around us.
Whilst travelling Asia during the summer of 2017, I became increasingly aware of the affect that fashion has on the world and how we so often want it rather than need it. Although I’ve worked since the age of 14 and have parents that have always pushed and supported my independent and curious nature, I realised I’d been living in somewhat of a cocoon: protected from the harsh realities of others' daily lives in other parts of the world.

Fashion has and will forever be one of my biggest passions; I find its abilities to affect mood and state of mind fascinating and believe that when used in the right way, it can be a huge source of positivity. So after arriving home with an underlying desire to do something good in an industry that I love, and have spent so much time exploring, I decided to create Shop Shaw.

The aim is to stimulate discussions, provide solutions and overall to simply promote sustainable opportunities (fashion and non-fashion related) using the #smallshawsteps. Sustainability is an overwhelming topic and I’m not sure about anyone else but initially I felt that I had no way of contributing to the mess we’d made, and asking myself where do I start? However I’ve come to realise that in the words of the supermarket giant Tesco, ‘every little helps’.

To me, it is impossible for anyone alone to take on every problem the world faces. We have busy and demanding lives, emotional strains and struggles of our own that more often than not mean that it is hard to focus on more than your own bubble. So, my view is simple - if everyone just makes one or two small shaw steps, the world would become a much better place.
Every week I will be posting under four main categories:
•In the news
- Informative news on brands that are sustainable/are taking steps
- A list of my favourite sustainable products (a mix of both affordable and 'one days')
- On Instagram I'll post people I've found that are inspiring and incorporating sustainability into their lives
•Sustainable swap Sunday
- An every day product/habit that can be easily swapped for a sustainable
To get involved and support me in promoting sustainability please visit and follow @shopshaw_ on Instagram and use #smallshawsteps to post any ideas/things you are doing to create positive change - fashion related or not. I’m still very much at the beginning of this journey so any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time read to this post.
I hope you’re having/have had the best day!
